How can you check the European Type Approval Number of a vehicle?

Type Approval Numbers also consist of specific codes, each of which represents a directive or inspection requirement. The components are separated by an asterisk (*).
Why doesn't my vehicle have a European Type Approval Number?
Before a car can be driven on the road in Europe, the manufacturer must demonstrate that it complies with all relevant legislation. Various tests must also be successfully passed. A vehicle without a European Type Approval Number does not meet the requirements set by the European Commission. Without EC Type Approval, a vehicle cannot and may not be introduced on the European market.
